The following is a report from Sharon Sem, a Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship 2023 student on a Teacher Training Course at Tokyo Gakugei University.

I am Sharon Sem from Ambrym. I teach English and social studies at Lakatoro school in Malekula.
I am currently engaged in a teacher training program at the Tokyo Gakugei university.
My major is Special needs education and I am currently doing a research which focuses more on exploring inclusive pedagogies: Assessing the impact of multi-sensory teaching approaches on academic achievement and social integration in special needs education.

As an islander studying and living abroad I am very grateful. The best part of it is, I get to interact with teachers from other countries and learn from their experiences. We also learn a lot from Japanese teachers and students.

My biggest challenges are to learn Japanese and try to communicate using Japanese. I also have to adapt to the high standard of technology used here in Japan. But I am confident in myself and I know I can make it.
The beautiful thing I discover is the unique nature and how respectful and humble people are to help you whenever you need help.

I am honored to have such opportunity. I pray for success and good health to all my dearest families and friends. Finally, thank you to Embassy of Japan in Vanuatu and the Ministry of Education to support my study in Japan.
