JAPANESE GOVERNMENT (MEXT) SCHOLARSHIP FOR 2026

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of the Japanese Government offers 4 categories of scholarship program to Vanuatu students who wish to study at Japanese universities and colleges.
 
Vanuatu students born after April 2, 2001 (age 25 or under by April 2026) are eligible to apply for the Undergraduate, National Institute of Technology (KOSEN) and Specialized Training College scholarship programs. Those who will graduate from high school by March 2026 are also eligible to apply. The scholarship period is (5) years from April 2026 for Undergraduate (except for Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine or six-year Pharmacy programs, which are (7) years until March 2033), (4) years for National Institute of Technology (KOSEN) and (3) years for Specialized Training College.
*The starting month of the scholarship period will be October 2026 if the start date of the semester at the host university is September 2026.
*National Institutes of Technology (KOSEN) specialize in technical education and award a specialist degree. Specialist Training colleges also provide a combination of vocational and general education, enabling students to acquire skills for a wide range of occupations.
 
The Research or Postgraduate program funds for education in Japan at the Master’s degree level and requires an applicant to have completed their four (4) years of University level education or to complete it by March 2026. Applicants for this program must be born on or after April 2, 1991 (age 35 or under by April 2026).
 
All four programs are full scholarship programs covering airfare, tuition and monthly stipends.

Certificate of Health : Given the cost involved in obtaining the Health Certificate, only those who passed the first round of screening will be required to obtain it. However, the applicant must be in good health both mentally and physically so that he/she will not have to return to Vanuatu due to illness during the period of study in Japan.
