On September 22, Ambassador of Japan to Vanuatu, H.E. OKUDA Naohisa, signed grant contracts to support the reconstruction of the Seaside Community School’s Kindergarten and Vila East Primary and Junior Secondary School, both damaged by the 2024 Port Vila earthquake. Hon. Simil Kalptu Johnson Youse, Minister of Education and Training, also attended the ceremony.
Through Japan’s assistance, the two schools will be equipped with new cyclone-resistant buildings, water tanks, toilets, and learning facilities, providing safer and more comfortable learning environments for hundreds of students and teachers. These facilities will also serve as emergency shelters for thousands of local residents in times of natural disasters.
