On May 6, Ambassador OKUDA attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Pico Hydro Project on Pentecost Island in the presence of the Minister for Climate Change Adaptation, Hon. Ralph Regenvanu, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Pacific Climate Change Team Leader, Ms. Merewalesi Laveti, the former Prime Minister of Vanuatu, Hon. Charlot Salwai, and other MPs from Pentecost, as well as other guests and government officials.
The projects are part of the Vanuatu Green Energy Transformation (VGET) initiative, a national effort supported by Japan and the UNDP. The Pico Hydro Project is a beacon of hope for rural electrification in Vanuatu. By harnessing the power of renewable energy, we are improving the quality of life and creating new economic opportunities. Japan is committed to ensuring long-term sustainability through community-based training and technical assistance.
