Signing ceremony for the Exchange of Notes for the grant assistance for the provision of fishery research vessels (4 December 2024)

  On 4th December, Ambassador Okuda signed an Exchange of Notes (E/N) with Hon. Matai Selemaiah, Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and External Trade in the presence of Hon. Jotham Napat, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry, Fisheries and Biosecurity and others, for grant assistance for the provision of fishery research vessels and related equipment (grant amount: 700 million yen (equivalent to 600 million vatu). This assistance is intended to strengthen Vanuatu's capacity to survey its fisheries resources and marine environment, thereby contributing to marine conservation and blue economy businesses in Vanuatu.
In his remarks, Hon. Selemaiah said, “Japan's support for fisheries research vessels will significantly enhance Vanuatu's marine research capacity and will be instrumental for the management of fisheries resources and marine conservation. The deepening partnership between our two countries, as seen in today's signing ceremony, will further strengthen the “Kizuna (bonds)” between our two countries reaffirmed during 10th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM10)”.
